Gameweek 6 Fixtures

5 of your early questions for this week!

  1. Triple Captain Haaland?
Burnley have conceded the most xGC of any team in the league so far this season with 10.47 and play Haaland who has more xG than any other player with 6.26. (The next highest is Bruno with 2.75…!) He is also likely to get a full rest midweek with it being a cup game. So yes it looks a good opportunity but there are of course other good games later on.

  2. Sell Salah to buy Haaland?
I think we have seen that Salah is not as much the main focus for Liverpool as before although still very good at picking up returns. Haaland for the next few games does feel essential so yes I would.

  3. Keep or sell Watkins?
The next two games, particularly Burnley in Gameweek 7 are not awful so if you cannot sell him its not the end of the world but yes I would.

  4. Is Gyokeres worth it?
Personally given the short term fixtures I think he is. However, if you want a Haaland and Salah draft he would most likely be the one to drop out.

  5. Take a -4 / -8 or Wildcard?
To be honest this week I think there is enough to change if you are in the territory of taking hits and still not 100% absolutely happy with your team I would look to Wildcard.

Harry’s players to consider buying in every position this week!

  1. Raya | Goalkeeper | Arsenal | £5.5m | 24.0%
It is time for the Arsenal fixtures to begin to turn. Now they play against Newcastle this week but Newcastle have scored just 3 goals this season and are 6th worst for xG this season. It feels time to buy Arsenal.

  2. Senesi | Defender | Bournemouth | £4.6m | 12.7%
ANOTHER week of DEFCON. Senesi and Tarkowski just look so reliable for it every single week. Leeds this week who although scored 3 this week are the 3rd worst for xG this season.

  3. Ndiaye | Midfielder | Everton | £6.5m | 9.2%
My favourite of the Everton Midfielders is Ndiaye still under 10% owned and now cheaper than Grealish. Only one blank so far this season which was against Leeds in Gameweek 1. 2 goals, 1 assist and 2 weeks of hitting DEFCON. A good run of fixtures and Everton do look impressive going forward.

  4. Haaland | Forward | Manchester City | £14.2m | 41.6%
I mean it’s a bit obvious and a bit boring. However, Haaland is the forward to buy this week. No if buts or maybes, BUR (H) and the highest scoring player in the league so far this season, I do not need to make it longer than it needs to be.

Ross’s Free Hit Team for GW6 (screenshot from fpl.team)

I think the free hit is relatively straight forward this week, unless you potentially want to squeeze in Salah against a very strong Palace team.

You absolutely want 3 Man City, and as good as Reijnders has been, I’d be tempted to use this opportunity to differentiate with Doku or Foden, alongside Haaland and Gvardiol.

I think Leeds have looked good, but Semenyo and Senesi feel like locks. West Ham have been really poor, so another double up on Everton makes sense with Ndiaye and Tarkowski. The remaining positions could be filled with more Spurs such as Kudus, Xavi Simons, and Richarlison.

But I have opted for some other solid assets such as Bruno, Joao Pedro, and Gibbs-White.

This week’s audio content comes from Ross, discussing the wildcard in a bit more detail and some possible alternative picks we could look towards if we want to differentiate. Enjoy! 🙂

NOTE: This was written on Sunday and since then Harry has activated his wildcard!

So the question is Wildcard or not to Wildcard! Ross & Oscar on top of the other 100,000s managers playing it are giving me FOMO!

I have confirmed 2 transfers.
Wood & Salah to Semenyo & Haaland.

This was always the plan whether I was going to Wildcard or not. I do not think my team needs a wildcard really but it is more the fact I think I will lose £1m in value between now and GW8 when I plan on playing it.

Right now the plan is to hold firm but the value element is definitely tempting!

I would be looking at adding Arsenal for Gameweek 7 and getting rid of Rogers and Watkins. However, the Palmer injury means Bruno is a better pick on Wildcard and I already own him… Plus saving until Gameweek 8 gives me more time to see if Salah and Haaland is the best structure.

THE WILDCARD IS ACTIVE!!! Time to turn this season around, hopefully starting in GW6. Although, I will be fighting against the Haaland triple captainers!

The audio content for this week is me talking through the wildcard and some slightly different picks that I am somewhat tempted to include, so I will keep it brief here.

Players that are LOCKED: Dubravka, Senesi, Andersen, Ndiaye, Reijnders, Semenyo, Haaland.

Players that I really like and will probably keep: Gabriel, Fernandes, Joao Pedro, Rodon.

Players I am unsure on: Raya, Tarkowski, Stach, Gyokeres.

If I need to free up a lot of money for something, losing Gyokeres feels the most likely position to downgrade. I really am thinking about possibly doing Gyokeres down to Foster, Bruno to Salah, and then downgrading Tarkowski to a cheap defender. I don’t love Salah, but I guess if I don’t have conviction on Gyokeres either, maybe that is the push I need to include Salah in a draft…

Plenty to think about across the week, but the most important thing is keeping an eye on price changes and maximising team value!

Wildcard

Wildcard active! Things were heading in the right direction and then last gameweek couldn’t have gone much worse. I had already activated it on Saturday before the gameweek had concluded, and a bad Sunday of FPL (with Rogers, Watkins, and Gyokeres all underperforming) only reinforced the decision.

Originally, I had planned to include Palmer on the wildcard, but after the recurrence of his groin injury, I’ve redistributed the funds with a view to bench boosting in GW7 immediately after. GW8 bench boost also looks solid given Burnley face Leeds (Dubravka, Esteve, Rodon, Gudmundsson, Stach, etc.). However, it’s a little riskier given it's a bigger gap from chip to chip, with an international break in between too.

I’m looking at some combinations at the back, such as Donnarumma and Saliba instead of Raya and Gvardiol. It basically boils down to Gvardiol's "nailedness." I prefer the Gvardiol combo assuming he starts all games. I’m also considering a <£4.8m defender + Foden instead of Gvardiol + Ndiaye. It’s a super tight call given Foden's upside is undeniably higher for the next two games, though I looked at how my team falls from GW8 onwards once the dust settles. The crux of it is I’d be left with a weaker defense longer term without a Man City defender in order to chase Foden’s upside for a few gameweeks. There is loads of midweek football before GW6, so let’s see if anything transpires—back on Thursday for the final FPL Wrapped of the week!

I’ve scrolled up and looked at Ross’s wildcard - 14/15 the same which is pretty sickening. Will be having a word. Hoping he has a change a heart with some of his picks, otherwise you can skip my Team Selection videos and Wrapped segments and just follow his! 😂

Next 6 Fixtures Ranked by Overall Difficulty.

Here are some interesting stats from the first 5 gameweeks:

  • Burnley are comfortably the worst defence in the league with 10.2xGC. The next worst is Villa with 8.4xGC, and Forest and West Ham joint on 7.7xGC.

  • Newcastle (2.6), Arsenal (3.4), Bournemouth (3.6), Liverpool (4.0), and Palace (4.9) are the only 5 teams with less than 5xGC so far this season, meaning they are averaging under 1xGC per game.

  • Manchester United have had the most shots in the league with 81, the most shots in the box with 55, and accumulated the highest xG with 10.01. By all accounts, the best attacking numbers in the league.

  • Tarkowski and Senesi are the only two players to pick up DEFCON points in every single game (10 points in total). Andersen and Caicedo are the only two players to pick up DEFCON points in 4 out of the 5 games (8 points in total).

  • Haaland has now accumulated 10 big chances this season. That is more big chances than Liverpool, Bournemouth, Spurs, and Newcastle. That’s right, Haaland has had more big chances than the entire Liverpool team.

  • Dewsbury-Hall is the only player on 4 yellow cards. Players receive a 1-match suspension when they receive 5 yellow cards.

There is quite a lot of mid-week football ahead, so if at the point of reading this you have not already moved early to catch those initial price changes, we probably recommend waiting. Hopefully the patience and extra information will aid your decision-making. If you moved early, pray for an uneventful mid-week!

Thank you for reading and we hope you enjoyed this look into the Premium Version of the Newsletter. As a reminder your usual version will always be Thursday 2pm but we send this on a Monday at 2pm to Premium members with early insights and thoughts every single week.
