FPL Wrapped - Our Gameweek 7 Teams

Here are our FPL Teams for Gameweek 7

Hello everyone, and welcome to the GW7 FPL Wrapped Newsletter. All 3 of us wildcarded in GW6, but here is where the plans start to diverge. Oscar has the bench boost active, Harry has already used his, and Ross is considering both the triple captain and bench boost this week. Plenty to discuss ahead of GW7 and the 2nd international break of the season, so let’s jump into it!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please remember it is a Friday evening deadline for GW7! Don’t miss the deadline!

Gameweek Fixtures

Every week Ross discusses 1 key FPL question in detail!

The key question for this week is whether it is worth taking a hit to bring in an Arsenal player.

The short answer to this is probably not, especially with defensive options such as Raya and Gabriel. If you sell Sanchez who gets 2 against Liverpool, and buy Raya who gets 6 against West Ham, all you have done is paid back the hit. And that is under the assumption Sanchez doesn’t make more saves and Raya actually gets the clean!

Same with Gabriel. If you have the option to start Andersen or Rodon or someone like that instead, it is very likely they get 2-4 points with DEFCON, so Gabriel would need 6-8 points just to pay back the hit. I just don’t love it.

With attackers, I certainly think it is more tempting, especially given the absence of DEFCON for many attackers (thereby lowering the floor), but also the relative upside of a rested Saka or a rested Eze. It could quite easily be a 2 point vs. 15 point swing.

I also think the horizon of the transfer is important. If you have already wildcarded, or plan on delaying the wildcard until GW13, it makes the hit a lot more tempting, simply because these are players you will want to own soon regardless, so maybe just get it done? If you are wildcarding in GW8, I can’t justify taking a hit before that…

I think to simplify it, ask yourself this - are you confident that the player you are bringing in will return, and do you want them in the long term? If the answer to both questions is yes, then the hit may well be worth it. If the answer to either question is no, maybe avoid.

Really simple for me this week after a wildcard is to roll I think. Even if Gabriel was a doubt after being subbed off early midweek I have Richards ready and waiting to be subbed on.

A few players I am watching are Ndiaye, Tarkowski and Bruno Fernandes but I know why I picked them last week so no major panic just yet! I will keep this short as some weeks there is a lot more to discuss.

I realise earlier in the week I uploaded the wrong one. So as a one off here is the Fixture ticker for the next 6 weeks ranked by difficulty.

I’ll keep this nice and short as I absolutely will not be making a transfer for GW7, unless something crazy gets revealed in the pressers on Friday.

I am also pretty happy and secure in my benching decisions too (although the bench order might require a bit more thought, as I don’t mind Rodon for GW7).

The main thing I need to decide, is whether or not I play a chip. I think both triple captain on Haaland against Brentford away, and Bench Boost with Dubravka, Andersen, Stach and Rodon, are justifiable.

My concern with triple captain Haaland is that I don’t think it’s the perfect fixture for him, and I’m not fully confident in the chip - I like to play my chips with confidence. But he is playing at a very high level right now, and I can absolutely see him getting 9-13 points which would be a decent little haul.

My concern with bench boost is that both Gabriel and Joao Pedro have some fitness concerns associated with them, and I don’t truly believe any of my 4 bench options will get a big return. That isn’t to say it isn’t possible, I just don’t feel confident, again.

I think as of right now I am probably 60% likely to play no chip, 30% likely to play the bench boost, and 10% likely to play the triple captain - but that could all change very quickly.

Wildcard

I’ve got a head scratcher this week, a successful wildcard and now the bench boost is active. There are a few small doubts like Gabriel and Joao Pedro however I expect both to start personally. The question is whether to bench boost Dubravka, Stach, Andersen and Mukiele or save it until GW8. In GW8 Ndiaye has MCI (A) and Andersen has ARS (A) which is horrendous, however if I were to sell Ndiaye for Sarr/Enzo then it does become a better bench than this week, not significantly but a bit Sarr/Enzo would be starting not bench boosted.

However, FPL is so unpredictable - I could hit some issues over the break that weaken or ruin the bench boost if I delay it. Though - with 4 FTs I do have flexibility. It’s a Friday deadline so less time than usual to decide what to do! As it stands the chip is active, Haaland captain. Best of luck this week all 🙂

Harry’s top 3 Captaincy choices this week!

  1. Haaland vs BRE (A)
Brentford have the 4th worst xGC so far this season, have conceded the 2nd most shots in the league in the league and at home they have conceded 31 shots inside the box from just 3 games, only West Ham have a worse record. If Anything, this should be a discussion about whether we should be triple captaining him rather than just captaining him. It is definitely an option.

  2. Saka vs WHU (H)
Saka is back from injury and got a decent rest midweek in the champions league which just sures up his start this weekend at home to West Ham. Saka has 9 returns in his last 7 matches against West Ham including a goal and 3 assists last time he played them. Saka was back on the score sheet midweek and although West Ham are likely to improve under Nuno this still feels a good captaincy call.

  3. Gyokeres vs WHU (H)
Similar to the Saka reasoning but just playing 90 midweek compared to Saka not starting and Saka being a midfielder is probably enough to put him 3rd but comments even from Martinelli saying they are trying to always create chances for him is good to hear.

If you are looking for other considerations Bruno and Watkins have great fixtures but I am not sure I would trust them enough with the armband given how both teams have started the season.

Joao Pedro wasn’t called up by Ancelotti, citing a “minor injury”. He did come off the bench in the CL the night before the squad announcement though, we think he’ll still play vs Liverpool. He also picked up a red card during that cameo, so he’ll get a midweek rest between GW8 and GW9 before SUN (H).

Disaster of the week goes to last gameweek’s rank 2 in the world, who finished on 35 points, dropping down to just inside 1K. 😬

As much as there are some attackable fixtures such as Arsenal against West Ham, and some desirable assets in the form of Senesi and Semenyo, it probably isn’t a bad week at all to roll considering the upcoming international break and the potential requirement to re-distribute funds if the likes of Saka, Palmer, and Isak become viable options from GW8 onwards. If in doubt, (maybe) do nothing!
