Hello everyone! Happy Thursday! What was meant to be a simple role again this week has turned into where do I likely use both of my transfers because of the Palmer injury. I am still waiting for a concrete update and am likely to wait for that on Friday before making any transfers even if that means taking a price drop.

The most likely scenario is I downgrade Palmer and upgrade Guiu to give me a more flexible 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 formation that would actually help deal with future injuries better than I can now. The obvious combination is Semenyo and Chris Wood and this may be where I end up going. However, this only leaves me £0.1m which is not that useful for future moves so I am considering alternatives.

The main alternative I look it is going Sarr at Crystal Palace at £6.5m instead of Semenyo. I would probably have the luxury of benching Sarr this week away at Aston Villa after playing Europe on Thursday evening and having him ready for Gameweek 4 onwards where their fixtures look great. The reason this is appealing is it would then leave £0.8m in the bank which I could use in the future. Mainly, looking at potentially upgrading Rogers to Gakpo if Rogers continues to disappoint or moving N.Williams up to Munoz or similar in the future.

I have my eyes firmly on a Palmer update but also on an Isak transfer to Liverpool and the impact that would have on Gakpo and Ekitike.

Right now, the most likely is Sarr and Wood in for Guiu and Palmer but lets see!

What an absolutely stinking start to the season! Couldn’t have really gone much worse! However, that just means more green arrows on the horizon, I hope…

Palmer’s injury is actually a blessing for me. I am sat their with Füllkrug and now I have a route to upgrade him, so for me the decision is simply who to replace Palmer and Füllkrug with in my team. Here are the options I have narrowed it down to:

Option 1: Palmer + Füllkrug —> Sarr + Wood/Mateta/João Pedro

Option 2: Palmer + Füllkrug —> Anderson + Wood/Mateta/João Pedro

Option 2 is interesting to me as it allows me the option to upgrade Guiu to a better forward in GW4 or GW5. But it of course gives me a slightly weaker midfielder, as much as I think Anderson is very good.

I haven’t really considered what I would do if Palmer was deemed fit for GW3, but I don’t think I would be able to sell him. At that point, I might be looking at selling Wirtz down to Sarr, or potentially just rolling and hoping for the best.

Captaincy right now is on Bruno, but if I buy one of Wood or João Pedro, they are an option too. I will still probably go for Bruno.

All eyes on Maresca’s press conference!

I’m finding Palmer’s injury has forced a very difficult dilemma, option 1 is roll and come back from the international break incredibly flexible. GW4 Palace have Sunderland home, maybe I'll want Sarr + Mateta. Liverpool have Burnley away, maybe Isak stays and I want Gakpo, Ekitike. Spurs have a run of West Ham, Brighton, Wolves, Leeds - maybe I’ll want Kudus. GW6 Man City have Burnley home, maybe I'll want to pivot to Haaland.

On the other hand, Palmer to Semenyo frees up money for Marc Guiu to Mateta/Joao Pedro/Wood. All three forwards look great at the moment. This immediately improves my starting 11 because I can avoid starting Andersen, and it covers me in case Strand Larsen does end up leaving if Newcastle come in with a crazy “too good to turn down” offer.

As mad as it might seem after Wednesday night’s antics I will be captaining Bruno for BUR (H) still.

Harry’s top 3 Captaincy choices this week!

  1. Haaland vs BHA (a)
For me Haaland is the best captain this week despite a blank in Gameweek 2 and an away fixture. I expect Manchester City to revert back to the team and system that was so deadly against Wolves and gave Haaland 1.99 xG.

  2. Fernandes vs BUR (H)
Now where to rank the Manchester United option in this list is difficult. If they had looked more in form, or beaten Grimsby Town, or Bruno had scored his Gameweek 2 penalty, maybe I would have put him top. However, none of these are the case! I still really like the fixture and think Fernandes is a very nicely well rounded pick for captaincy despite his recent positioning. If you have Cunha or Mbeumo instead I still think these are also good options.

  3. Wood vs WHU (H)
West Ham have 4th worst xGC so far this season and have conceded 8 goals already in two weeks, three more than any other team. Nottingham Forest are always catered to giving Wood chances with him having x% goal involvement last season.

The obvious remaining omissions here are Salah and Palmer. If we get to the press conference and Palmer is available I think he would actually be 1st as the best captain this week. So keep an eye on the update. On Salah, I think the Arsenal defence looks too strong and Salah has not looked dangerous enough for him to be a stand out but he is never a bad choice and can return in any game.

There are multiple ways to play FPL, and we advise that you follow a strategy and philosophy of play that suits you and your style. Some managers will remain patient, keep rolling and collecting information - that is absolutely fine. Some managers will have seen enough, and be ready to take -4 hits or hit the wildcard - that is absolutely fine too.

Don’t play the game in a way that suits others, play in a way that suits you, and have fun with it!
