Well here we are… 16 hours to go and all those hours of trying different teams and looking at £4.5m defender rotations will be put into action! The team is really settling into place. The only big decision I have left I think is the Rogers spot. I think if hes back in training on Wednesday there is no reason he cannot play. However, I also like Gakpo and Wirtz in this spot. To afford that I could downgrade Milenkovic to Williams or downgrade João Pedro to Strand Larsen / Fullkrug as well.
The issue with that for me is I think the £7.5m FWD is a really useful price point to have in my team. If Mateta, Solanke or Wood for example look really good and I am happy to Watkins there won't be a way for me to get there. However, if Wirtz or Saka or Ndiaye look strong as examples, I can sell Rogers or Bruno to go and get them.
Now talking about price points is all well and good until Wirtz just outscores Rogers and Strand Larsen outscores João Pedro!
I wanted Tarkowski but with the injury to Branthwaite I decided to downgrade him to Anderson and so Dorgu came in as a rotating defender. I really wanted Richards over Dorgu, however, Crystal Palace and Fulham have good fixtures in the same weeks and I may well want Munoz sooner rather than later and I would not want double Crystal Palace defence especially given they have European Playoffs between Gameweek 1 and Gameweek 2 and then between Gameweek 2 and 3 as well.
Anyway! Lets see! Good luck everyone!

I can’t believe we only have one more sleep until the GW1 deadline. It feels like Christmas Eve, only I am less excited and more nervous… anyway, let’s talk about the team.
I really don’t think this team has the best ‘balance’. No £6.0m defender, no forward priced around £7.5m. However, I sat down and thought about the players that I really wanted, the players that I really didn’t want to sacrifice or compromise on. These were:
Salah, Palmer, Watkins, Bruno, Wirtz.
So, I put all of them in my team, and built around that, which is how I ended up here. And, I think the likes of Füllkrug and Reijnders could offer nice value, and the defence, whilst cheap, includes some really nice options such as Porro, Williams, and even the cheap Diouf and Andersen.
I have lost a bit of balance, have a slightly weaker bench and defence, but have got 5 huge heavy hitters in the attack, so I am hoping those 5 go big most weeks and counter the loss of points in defence.
The possible changes heading into the GW1 deadline are as follows:
Wirtz + Füllkrug —> Rogers + Joao Pedro/Mateta
Andersen —> Dorgu/Richards
Füllkrug + Andersen —> Frimpong + Kroupi Jr
Good luck with your final tinkering!

Not long until the first deadline! I don’t remember a season quite like this one in terms of just how well priced all the players are, and with the new defensive contributions rule there’s significantly more defenders up for consideration. I’ve been going back and forth on Murillo vs Milenkovic, and have landed on the former. Pretty sure Harry’s on Milenkovic so hopefully I’m on the right side of that one.
Double Spurs defense could be a bit ropey, though they’ve been given the best clean sheet odds for Gameweek 1 (see further down this newsletter after reading this!). I’ve got the choice to go Romero down to Van De Ven and use the 0.5m on Tielemans to a 6.5, though Sarr is the only one I’m personally sold on and already have Mateta. Tielemans didn’t do too badly for defensive contributions last season and has a return in him plus the fixtures, a small chance of penalties.
One thing I am still exploring at this late hour is Dewsbury-Hall and what he unlocks, 1m saved which means Romero could go up to a 6m defender. I’ll be assessing Frimpong (Bradley injury?), Gvardiol (injury?) and Gabriel as the candidates. Which scores higher, Romero + Tielemans, or Gvardiol + Dewsbury-Hall? 🤔
I’m not as convinced on Liverpool’s defense as others, so won’t be buying Virgil but Frimpong offers huge upside in the case of a Bradley injury, otherwise I’m swerving him. Anyone who is a potential minutes risk is not up for consideration in my team. Salah captain, Palmer vice. Wishing you the best of luck in the first gameweek and the rest of the season!

My Gameweek 1 Captaincy Ranking has not changed since last week.
Since our newsletter last week, nothing has happened to change the reasoning and rankings for the top 3 captains for Gameweek 1 so it remains the same!
Salah vs. BOU (H):
Bournemouth have lost Huijsen, Kerkez and Kepa as well as Zabarnyi being linked with a move away. Truffert as their new left back will not be used to line up against Salah and is unlikely to get much help from his other defenders who will be trying to stop Wirtz, Ekitike, Gakpo and who knows maybe Isak as well. On top of this Salah has a fantastic record on the opening day of the season as well as being the first home game of the season having just won the title.Haaland vs. WOL (A):
An actual slight differential going into the start of the season and an even bigger one if you decide to go against Salah who will likely mop up the majority of captaincies in Gameweek 1. However, if you are brave enough Haaland often starts very quickly at the beginning of the season and play a Wolves side who have lost several key players in the likes of Cunha, Ait-Nouri and Semedo which could lead to a much weaker outfit compared to how they finished last season as a surprisingly strong outfit.Palmer vs. CRY (H):
Chelsea’s first game of the season sees them host Crystal Palace who have actually looked strong during pre season. However, Palmer remains the focus of the Chelsea attack and with the likes of Joao Pedro and Gittens joining, it will likely be harder for teams to double up on him when defending. Plus Palmer is reliable, on penalties and likely to get 90 minutes whilst also having haul potential as he has shown numerous times over the past year.

Here is some other news that be of use ahead of the GW1 deadline:
Rogers has been pictured in training ahead of their tie against Newcastle. We know that Emery will always play Rogers if he is fit, so we think he is back on the menu. Let’s see what is said in the press conference.
Spurs put up a good fight in the Super Cup with Romero and Van de Ven both scoring and Porro getting an assist. All 3 look like excellent options at their respective prices. Sarr (£5.0m) started again and managed to hit 16 CBIRT, looks a nice option at £5.0m.
Grealish signs for Everton, which we don’t think will massively affect Dewsbury-Hall’s or Ndiaye’s minutes, but we do think will force KDH into a deeper role - still a great option at £5.0m.
There have been rumours of Nottingham Forest looking to sign a new left back such as Davis and Tsimikas - in the long-term this could affect Williams’ minutes. But for now, we think both him and Aina are safe to go for.
Still no notable updates on both Isak and Wissa - avoid both unless we hear about a resolution before the GW1 deadline, but we still think you can do better at their respective prices.

Keep an eye on the transfer rumours over the next 24 hours, that could absolutely affect which players we pick. Also, keep an eye on those press conferences throughout Thursday and Friday before locking in your teams.
Speaking of, the FPL site and app has been far from fully functional in pre-season. Before you go to sleep tonight, make sure your team is in a position that you’d be happy with, just in case chaos ensues on Friday and the app and site break again!
Thank you so much for the support on all of our content over the past few weeks, especially on this newsletter! We can’t wait to keep improving across the season!
